Best Boy/Best Man - 2 Disc Set

Best Boy
illustrates the profoundly moving story of the filmmaker's 52-year-old cousin, Philly, retarded since birth, and of Philly's journey toward independence from his loving, aging parents who have sheltered him throughout his life. Ira Wohl intimately and tenderly filmed Philly's changes and family life for over three years. Best Boy eavesdrops on day-to-day chatter and on important family conversations. It presents memorable images of the amiable Philly - relishing an outing to the zoo (his first excursion without his parents); eagerly boarding a school bus to begin classes at a training center; quietly mourning his father's death; and, at the film's conclusion, contentedly moving into a residence for the retarded just seven months before his mother dies. The film is an eloquent masterpiece about the liberation of a human spirit.
