Mary Keelan, Mary Keelan, Director for Development, Advocacy, and Media, Mid-Hudson Library System, Poughkeepsie,New York (ret.); Independent Consultant to Libraries and Non-profits, has specialized in media librarianship since 1983, serving as Department Head for AV Services; coordinator of the New York State Film and Video Database; cofounder of the NYS Public Library System Video Consortium; manager of the Video Health Information Project; chair of ALA Video Round Table; author and lecturer on copyright and censorship issues. She has been an advisor to the Library Media Project since 1992.

Panelists

Peter Davis is a filmmaker who has concentrated on social and political documentaries. He has worked in Sweden, Britain, Canada and the United States, and was particularly concerned with South Africa during the apartheid period. His best-known work is probably In Darkest Hollywood, a two part documentary on cinema and apartheid, and he produced a book on the same subject. Some of his other films include Generations of Resistance and Winnie and Nelson Mandela.

Jean Haynes was a fan of Independent film before she became a film librarian at the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System in Western New York, more than thirty years ago. Now semi-retired, she retains her membership in the media community by working with students in a video project at Jamestown High School. She programs film and video for libraries and art galleries, and participates in a video history project. As a Film/Video Librarian, Jean received the Joan Clark Award for Excellence in Media Librarianship and worked with the New York Library Association Film - Video Roundtable for many years.

John F. dos Santos, Ph.D. is Emeritus Professor of Psychology and former Director of the Gerontology Center at the University of Notre Dame. He is a trustee of the Retirement Research Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors of the Alliance for Aging Research and Editor Emeritus of Gerontology & Geriatrics Education, a multidisciplinary journal. He received his doctoral degree from Tulane University and his research, teaching and service experience has included a broad scope of programs in geropsychology.
