Nevelson In Process - Currently Unavailable

American sculptor Louise Nevelson (1900-1988) was in her forties before she sold a work to anyone other than a fellow artist, and was in her sixties before the art press conceded her stature as a leading sculptor. Because she lacked money for materials, she used wood and junk left out on the streets of New York City to create her innovative environmental art, which she describes as "really for my visual eye...a feast for myself." Shows Nevelson creating two new sculptures, one of wood and one of metal. The Originals: Women In Art series.

Curator's Comments: Not an in-depth portrait of the artist or analysis of her work, but this is a rewarding visit with a fascinating personality and a gifted artist. We see her at work but she is not very forthcoming about her creative process. Nevertheless this is a useful introduction to Nevelson's work.
